  • Raised by an alcoholic mother and without a father, Jonna learned at a young age to put her needs on the back-burner. After her mother dies of cancer, she goes on a spiritual journey looking for enlightenment and a purpose for her life. Eventually, she ends up as a volunteer in the relief effort following Hurricane Ike. There she meets a man that will forever change her life. In the swamps of Louisiana and the hills of Arkansas, Jonna follows her heart to build a life with an American hero - a 20 year veteran of the Army Special Forces. Only after uprooting her whole life, leaving everything and everyone she knows behind, do the pieces of this fairytale start to unravel. Realizing the man of her dreams is actually the stuff of nightmares; Jonna must once again go within and discover why she is a woman willing to love for crumbs.

  • In the summer of 1967, at the age of four, Tess received two things; a baby sister and the nickname Sister Girl. Neither of which she wanted. Life had been perfect before baby Grace came into their lives. Sure, sometimes Mama got mad at Daddy or Daddy got mad at Mama, but most days Tess enjoyed a regular routine. Eating her cereal while sitting on the floor in her underpants, watching morning cartoons, or visiting with Mrs. Gardner next door was enough to keep her happy. She didn't see why anything needed to change, but as Mama always said, "Life moves forward and you need to move with it or you'll get swept away." This humorous coming of age novel by Jonna Ivin takes the reader on a journey through the late 60's into the early 80's. You'll fall in love with Sister Girl as she manages to survive a world where grownups teach her how to nail clothes to the floor, hustle money at the track, and play with matches. All the while she manages the overwhelming responsibility of being the big sister to Grace (an increasingly odd child who lives in a fantasy world and barks at strangers).

  • Already hailed as "brave, emotional, and gorgeously written" by Frances Mayes and "like a piece of dark chocolate -- bittersweet, satisfying, and finished all too soon" by Laura Fraser, author of An Italian Affair, this is a unique memoir about the search for identity through love, hunger, and food. Jim Harrison says, "Trail of Crumbs reminds me of what heavily costumed and concealed waifs we all are. Kim Sunv©e tells us so much about the French that I never learned in 25 trips to Paris, but mostly about the terrors and pleasure of that infinite octopus, love. A fine book." When Kim Sunv©e was three years old, her mother took her to a marketplace, deposited her on a bench with a fistful of food, and promised she'd be right back. Three days later a policeman took the little girl, clutching what was now only a fistful of crumbs, to a police station and told her that she'd been abandoned by her mother. Fast-forward almost 20 years and Kim's life is unrecognizable. Adopted by a young New Orleans couple, she spends her youth as one of only two Asian children in her entire community. At the age of 21, she becomes involved with a famous French businessman and suddenly finds herself living in France, mistress over his houses in Provence and Paris, and stepmother to his eight year-old daughter. Kim takes readers on a lyrical journey from Korea to New Orleans to Paris and, along the way serving forth her favorite recipes. A love story at heart, this memoir is about the search for identity and a book that will appeal to anyone who is passionate about love, food, travel, and the ultimate search for self.

  • Journey through the pages of ancient biblical history. Relive the saga of a man whose hopelessness reached far beyond poverty and hunger, into the bottomless abyss of one who no longer lives, but merely exists. His name was Mephibosheth, the displaced grandson of King Saul. He eats scraps off the floor and pathetically settles for life's leftovers. His life might, sadly, be like your own. You too might be rejected, confused and without hope as God's promises seem so far away. Yet, like Mephibosheth, and other men and women of God in the Bible, you can find God's provision and restoration. You can break through the desert of existence into the oasis of God's abundant life.

  • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A superb love story from Anna Quindlen, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Rise and Shine, Blessings, and A Short Guide to a Happy Life Still Life with Bread Crumbs begins with an imagined gunshot and ends with a new tin roof. Between the two is a wry and knowing portrait of Rebecca Winter, a photographer whose work made her an unlikely heroine for many women. Her career is now descendent, her bank balance shaky, and she has fled the city for the middle of nowhere. There she discovers, in a tree stand with a roofer named Jim Bates, that what she sees through a camera lens is not all there is to life. Brilliantly written, powerfully observed, Still Life with Bread Crumbs is a deeply moving and often very funny story of unexpected love, and a stunningly crafted journey into the life of a woman, her heart, her mind, her days, as she discovers that life is a story with many levels, a story that is longer and more exciting than she ever imagined. Anna Quindlen’s marvelous romantic comedy of manners is just such a book. . . . Taken as a whole, Quindlen’s writings represent a generous and moving interrogation of women’s experience across the lines of class and race. [Still Life with Bread Crumbs] proves all the more moving because of its light, sophisticated humor. Quindlen’s least overtly political novel, it packs perhaps the most serious punch. . . . Quindlen has delivered a novel that will have staying power all its own.”—The New York Times Book Review “[A] wise tale about second chances, starting over, and going after what is most important in life.”—Minneapolis Star Tribune “Quindlen’s astute observations . . . are the sorts of details every writer and reader lives for.”—Chicago Tribune “[Anna] Quindlen’s seventh novel offers the literary equivalent of comfort food. . . . She still has her finger firmly planted on the pulse of her generation.”—NPR “Enchanting . . . [The protagonist’s] photographs are celebrated for turning the ‘minutiae of women’s lives into unforgettable images,’ and Quindlen does the same here with her enveloping, sure-handed storytelling.”—People “Charming . . . a hot cup of tea of a story, smooth and comforting about the vulnerabilities of growing older . . . a pleasure.”—USA Today “With spare, elegant prose, [Quindlen] crafts a poignant glimpse into the inner life of an aging woman who discovers that reality contains much more color than her own celebrated black-and-white images.”—Library Journal “Quindlen has always excelled at capturing telling details in a story, and she does so again in this quiet, powerful novel, showing the charged emotions that teem beneath the surface of daily life.”—Publishers Weekly “Quindlen presents instantly recognizable characters who may be appealingly warm and nonthreatening, but that only serves to drive home her potent message that it’s never too late to embrace life’s second chances.”—Booklist “Profound . . . engaging.”—Kirkus Reviews

  • Genre : Cooking
  • With praise from Dorie Greenspan, Jim Lahey, and David Lebovitz, the definitive bread-baking book for a new generation. But this book isn’t just about baking bread-- it’s about what to do with the slices and heels and nubs from those many loaves you’ll bake. Alexandra Stafford grew up eating her mother’s peasant bread at nearly every meal—the recipe for which was a closely-guarded family secret. When her blog, Alexandra’s Kitchen, began to grow in popularity, readers started asking how to make the bread they’d heard so much about; the bread they had seen peeking into photos. Finally, Alexandra’s mother relented, and the recipe went up on the internet. It has since inspired many who had deemed bread-baking an impossibility to give it a try, and their results have exceeded expectations. The secret is in its simplicity: the no-knead dough comes together in fewer than five minutes, rises in an hour, and after a second short rise, bakes in buttered bowls. After you master the famous peasant bread, you’ll work your way through its many variations, both in flavor (Cornmeal, Jalapeno, and Jack; Three Seed) and form (Cranberry Walnut Dinner Rolls; Cinnamon Sugar Monkey Bread). You’ll enjoy bread’s usual utilities with Food Cart Grilled Cheese and the Summer Tartine with Burrata and Avocado, but then you’ll discover its true versatility when you use it to sop up Mussels with Shallot and White Wine or juicy Roast Chicken Legs. Finally, you’ll find ways to savor every last bite, from Panzanella Salad Three Ways to Roasted Tomato Soup to No-Bake Chocolate-Coconut Cookies. Bread, Toast, Crumbs is a 2018 nominee for The IACP Julia Child First Book Award, and Alexandra's Kitchen was a finalist for the Saveur Blog Awards Most Inspired Weeknight Dinners 2016

  • Genre : Biography & Autobiography
  • Elena Gorokhova’s A Mountain of Crumbs is the moving story of a Soviet girl who discovers the truths adults are hiding from her and the lies her homeland lives by. Elena’s country is no longer the majestic Russia of literature or the tsars, but a nation struggling to retain its power and its pride. Born with a desire to explore the world beyond her borders, Elena finds her passion in the complexity of the English language—but in the Soviet Union of the 1960s such a passion verges on the subversive. Elena is controlled by the state the same way she is controlled by her mother, a mirror image of her motherland: overbearing, protective, difficult to leave. In the battle between a strong-willed daughter and her authoritarian mother, the daughter, in the end, must break free and leave in order to survive. Through Elena’s captivating voice, we learn not only the stories of Russian family life in the second half of the twentieth century, but also the story of one rebellious citizen whose curiosity and determination finally transport her to a new world. It is an elegy to the lost country of childhood, where those who leave can never return.

  • My husband and I are owners of a daycare center and while observing the children I noticed that often they would leave their meal on the table to scrounge for a crumb that they had lost under the table or around their chairs. After it was brought to their attention that the crumb was no longer good for consumption and after redirecting them to the more attractive spread before them, they had no problem finishing their tasty morsels. As Christians we often do the same thing, we leave our wonderful, abundant life or spiritual meal that is handsomely displayed before us to scrounge around for crumbs that are no longer appropriate for our spiritual consumption. I pray that this book will be a gateway through which we can grow past the crumbs and sit at the place Christ has prepared for us at His table. God has so much in store for us. Scripture states that He "...is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us," (Ephesians 3:20). Just as He said in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope." (NLT)

Do Not Settle for Crumbs When There Is Plenty

  • Way too many times we settle for crumbs, when there is plenty or so much more than we realize in our human reasoning or our perception. Many times we do not know what to do in life financially, because of the stress of everything that we truly need, the list sometimes is long or endless. There seems to always be a demand on everything that we have.I know how to find an answer for all of my needs and it is God, in whom I truly serve, He has an answer for me and for you, my Dear Reading Friend, a person might say, “Oh Yah… Then how do we find, the answers, for all of our needs?”God is everyone's answer and we find our answers through and by calling upon Him, in times of prayer. There seems to never be enough money to work with, on a single income or that weekly check. Why do we settle for crumbs, when, we serve a God that has plenty. This world will give you crumbs, but in my Father's House, He will give you plenty. Jesus said that He come to give us life and to give it unto us abundantly.Every Child of God needs to realize this one thing that God is our refuge, and our help, we should never count on this worlds system, because man will always fail you, but God has a better plan. In the plan of salvation, we can always look to God, for all of our answers and all of our needs. Way too many of Gods Children settle for crumbs, when there is a supply of plenty that never runs dry, in my Father's House; He doesn't know anything about crumbs, because His Love always gives plenty. In this world, I have found that many times when the chips were down in my life, when I call upon Jesus, an answer finally comes, with good news. We were born in this world, but once we become a Christian, we changed masters. Everyone is used to having nothing and crumbs are from the devil, this world blinds us of a future of abundance. We are not used to living in life with plenty, especially, if you have been poor or living poorly. Living a life of, fighting to make ends meet, many do not realize or know that we can live in life and have abundant favor with God or that He gives us life and can lead us into a life of abundance, in His great favor toward us His Chosen People, we are His Saints. When we gave our life back to God, we changed masters, the devil is not our source of our supply, any longer, we switched hands, our master is God now, our minds need to realize, Satan gives you crumbs and God gives us, from His Table of plenty.A person can settle for crumbs, but why would, a person settle for less, when there is plenty, at my Fathers Table? How can a person find this kind of love and Gods great favor? God's written Word says if we keep Gods commandments that we will find favor with God and with man.Take heed to hear these Words in scripture, because it is God's Word unto anyone that will hold, to His Word and trust in scriptures, as you read them. Every Child of God will have to look to God, for their needs, He is our God and His Word cannot lead us in a wrong direction, only the devil does these kind of things, we changed hands, we changed masters, and we now do not have to settle for crumbs when there is plenty at my Fathers Table. Do not settle for crumbs when there is plenty.PERSONAL EXPERIENCEI was barely scraping by, my wife was the only one working and I did not know what to do, so I made a prayer call unto God and I told Him my problems that I was having, I never looked to Mom or my Brother or any of my three Sisters, I went to God in prayer and He said something to me that made good sense, because He gave me His Counseling and His Grace, all wrapped up in one small little Word from God and this is what He wrote in my heart and mind, for my tuff situation that I truly was in, because I was eating crumbs and for a long time and never even knew it.God told me to go to the newspaper office and run an ad for ROOFING JOBS and I only had a twenty-dollar bill to my name and I was broke.

  • From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new STEMinist rom-com in which a scientist is forced to work on a project with her nemesis—with explosive results. Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward. Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away. Now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and Bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. Perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but Bee could swear she can see Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. And the possibilities have all her neurons firing. But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there’s only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

  • After moving into a dank and drafty basement suite in West Edmonton with her truck- driving father, nasty stepmother and taciturn twin brother, Ash, seventeen-year-old Greta doesn't have high expectations for her last year of high school. When she blacks out at a party and is told the next day that she's had sex, she thinks things can't get any worse. She's wrong. While Greta deals with the confusion and shame of that night, her stepmother and father choose that moment to disappear, abandoning Ash and Greta to the mercy of their peculiar landlord, Elgin, who lives upstairs. Even as Greta struggles to make sense of what happened to her, she finds herself enjoying her new and very eccentric family, who provide the shelter and support that has long been absent from her life. Much to Greta's surprise, she realizes there is still kindness in the world—and hope.

  • Where do you get the best crab cakes? Ask one hundred different people and you'll likely get one hundred different answers. Some swear by classic Chesapeake Bay crab cakes, and some by spicy Creole crab cakes, while others maintain that Pacific Northwest crab cakes can't be beat. In I Love Crab Cakes!, award-winning chef and cookbook author Tom Douglas brings the best of East, West, and Gulf coasts to the table and proves that the most delicious crab cakes of all come straight from your home kitchen. Tom thoroughly examines every thorny, crab cake–related issue. Bread crumbs, cracker crumbs, panko, or no crumbs at all? What kind of crabmeat: Dungeness, king, or Peeky Toe? Are the best crab cakes pan-fried, deep-fried, or not even cooked? Tom offers up dozens of his famous crab cake recipes, including classic crab cakes from East and West, North and South, plus newer innovations such as Wild Ginger Crab Cakes, Pesto Risotto Crab Cakes, and Crab Louie Cheesecakes. There are crab cake sandwiches, breakfast crab cakes, and crab cake sauces and salsas.
