Her mother intended to tell the truth about that night to a reporter on the very day she died--could it have been murder? Or was she a victim of the supposed Alban curse? • Mammy Walsh's A-Z of the Walshes is a laugh-out-loud ebook-only short guide to everyone's favourite dysfunctional Irish family. It does exactly what it says on the tin but here's a brief word from its author, Mammy Walsh herself: 'There's this woman I know from bridge, Mona Hopkins, a lovely woman she is, even if I must admit I'm not that keen on her myself, and she said a great thing the other day. I was expecting her to say "Two no trumps," but instead she comes out with a saying about her children. She says, "Boys wreck your house and girls wreck your head." Isn't that a marvellous bit of wisdom - "Boys wreck your house and girls wreck your head!" And God knows it's the truest thing I've heard in a long time. I should know. I have five girls. Five daughters. And let me tell you, my head is wrecked from them. Although, now that I think of it, so is my house . . .' It's the perfect re-introduction to the Walsh family, featured in Marian's bestselling novels about the Walsh sisters, Watermelon, Rachel's Holiday, Angels, Anybody Out There and The Mystery of Mercy Close . Praise for Marian Keyes: 'When it comes to writing page-turners that put a smile on your face and make you think, Keyes is in a class of her own' Daily Express 'Zips along with engaging characters, fabulous plotting and spot-on dialogue. Harris. Jasper Lightner is a decorated Crimean War hero and the most admired inspector in London's Metropolitan Police. Along with a chest full of medals, he's got a head injury that's left large chunks of his memory missing. But Jasper's biggest problem is his father, the Duke of Kersey, who, enraged by a series of front-page newspaper stories extolling Jasper's exploits, decides he's had enough of the embarrassment and uses his political connections to keep his son out of the headlines--and off the police force. Jasper is sent packing to New York City on a year-long assignment to train detectives, and discovers a police department hovering on the brink of armed conflict. Assigned to investigate the murder of philanthropist and reformer Stephen Finch, Jasper joins forces with a man who might be even more of an outsider than he is: Hieronymus Law, a detective who had investigated two almost identical killings--and who is rumored to have taken money to help frame an innocent woman for murder. Law is bent on restoring his good name. But can Jasper trust Hy enough to bring him into the investigation? As the city devolves into madness and law enforcement falls into the hands of dangerous gangs, this unlikely team has no choice but to work together to pursue an adversary more sinister than either has faced alone.

  • The mysterious death of a mentally disabled boy sends his stepsister on the run in this historical novel by the Robert Penn Warren Award–winning author. Rural North Carolina, 1950s. When young Adam Finney is found dead in a river, his teenaged stepsister, Jess Booker, is sought for questioning by the police. Making a desperate escape, Jess treks and hitchhikes across four states to a boarding house in tiny Lula, Alabama. Pursued by a mysterious car with a faded “I Like Ike” sticker, she is also haunted by memories of her mother’s early death, her father’s distressing marriage to Adam’s mother, the loving bond she formed with Adam, and her boyfriend Sam’s troubling letters from the thick of combat in the Korean War. In Lula, Jess finds a respite among a curious surrogate family, as well as the strength to return home and face the questions she cannot answer about her stepbrother’s death. Set in the mid-twentieth-century South, A Question of Mercy examines individual freedom and responsibility, as well as America’s legacy of shameful practices regarding the mentally disabled. Through her vibrant characters and lush southern settings, Elizabeth Cox illuminates the moral, ethical, and seemingly unnatural decisions people face when caring for society’s weakest members. • NATIONAL BESTSELLER “Ms. Haigh is an expertly nuanced storyteller long overdue for major attention. Her work is gripping, real, and totally immersive, akin to that of writers as different as Richard Price, Richard Ford, and Richard Russo.”—Janet Maslin, New York Times The highly praised, “extraordinary” (New York Times Book Review) novel about the disparate lives that intersect at a women’s clinic in Boston, by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Haigh For almost a decade, Claudia has counseled patients at Mercy Street, a clinic in the heart of the city. The work is consuming, the unending dramas of women in crisis. For its patients, Mercy Street offers more than health care; for many, it is a second chance. But outside the clinic, the reality is different. Anonymous threats are frequent. A small, determined group of anti-abortion demonstrators appears each morning at its door. As the protests intensify, fear creeps into Claudia’s days, a humming anxiety she manages with frequent visits to Timmy, an affable pot dealer in the midst of his own existential crisis. At Timmy’s, she encounters a random assortment of customers, including Anthony, a lost soul who spends most of his life online, chatting with the mysterious Excelsior11—the screenname of Victor Prine, an anti-abortion crusader who has set his sights on Mercy Street and is ready to risk it all for his beliefs. Mercy Street is a novel for right now, a story of the polarized American present. Jennifer Haigh, “an expert natural storyteller with a keen sense of her characters’ humanity” (New York Times), has written a groundbreaking novel, a fearless examination of one of the most divisive issues of our time.

  • An angry prophet. A feared and loathsome enemy. A devastating storm. And the surprising message of a merciful God to his people. The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. It is also the most misunderstood. Many people, even those who are nonreligious, are familiar with Jonah: A rebellious prophet who defies God and is swallowed by a whale. But there's much more to Jonah's story than most of us realize. In The Prodigal Prophet, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Timothy Keller reveals the hidden depths within the book of Jonah. Keller makes the case that Jonah was one of the worst prophets in the entire Bible. And yet there are unmistakably clear connections between Jonah, the prodigal son, and Jesus. Jesus in fact saw himself in Jonah. How could one of the most defiant and disobedient prophets in the Bible be compared to Jesus? Jonah's journey also doesn't end when he is freed from the belly of the fish. There is an entire second half to his story--but it is left unresolved within the text of the Bible. Why does the book of Jonah end on what is essentially a cliffhanger? In these pages, Timothy Keller provides an answer to the extraordinary conclusion of this biblical parable--and shares the powerful Christian message at the heart of Jonah's story.

After their last deployment, when she got shot, her fiancé Martinez got killed and his bomb-sniffing dog Elvis got depressed, soldier Mercy Carr and Elvis were both sent home, her late lover’s last words ringing in her ears: “Take care of my partner.” Together the two former military police—one twenty-nine-year-old two-legged female with wounds deeper than skin and one handsome five-year-old four-legged Malinois with canine PTSD—march off their grief mile after mile in the beautiful remote Vermont wilderness. Even on the Fourth of July weekend, when all of Northshire celebrates with fun and frolic and fireworks, it’s just another walk in the woods for Mercy and Elvis—until the dog alerts to explosives and they find a squalling baby abandoned near a shallow grave filled with what appear to be human bones. U.S. Game Warden Troy Warner and his search and rescue Newfoundland Susie Bear respond to Mercy’s 911 call, and the four must work together to track down a missing mother, solve a cold-case murder, and keep the citizens of Northshire safe on potentially the most incendiary Independence Day since the American Revolution. It’s a call to action Mercy and Elvis cannot ignore, no matter what the cost.

  • In A Little Book of God's Mercy, you'll see how God reveals His plan to be merciful to all those who live until the end of the world. This includes billions of people who will never be saved. In fact, the Bible reveals that only a small number of all those alive on the last day will be saved. Some of what you find in this book will be familiar if you were a Family Radio listener for a while before May 21, 2011 and heard the late Mr. Harold Camping teach about the Bible's timeline. Although many people have now dismissed his teachings, you will see that he actually came very close to correctly understanding what the Bible reveals about the last days. And if you are not familiar with Mr. Camping's teachings, you will find in A Little Book of God's Mercy a coherent solution to many questions that have puzzled Christians for centuries. This claim is based on the Bible, because the Lord reveals that only in the last days will the elect understand certain truths. This was God's promise to the prophet Daniel when He spoke to him about the "time of the end." Daniel didn't understand. When he asked for more information, the Lord told him that the words were "closed up and sealed till the time of the end." Even though what Daniel heard was sealed until our day, the Bible actually shows pictures of this information being unsealed. We find them in Revelation, recorded by the apostle John about 600 years after Daniel finished recording his book. Revelation is the last book of the Bible and is God's final word to mankind. It describes many visions seen by John when he was on the island of Patmos near the end of the first century A.D. Many people have heard some references to Revelation, but they may have no idea what they mean. The seven seals, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the battle of Armageddon are often mentioned in discussions about the end of the world. In A Little Book of God's Mercy, you will find these visions explained along with several lesser known visions from Revelation (such as those about the two witnesses and the little book that John ate), and see how they relate to certain other passages from elsewhere in the Bible, such as Joseph's coat of many colors, the parable of the ten virgins, Balaam's talking ass, Satan's head wound, and Jacob's deathbed prophecies about his twelve sons - from whom are descended the twelve tribes of Israel. You'll find all these explained in A Little Book of God's Mercy, along with a discussion of hell and the question of whether there is punishment after death for the unsaved (there isn't!). And you'll see how God reveals that Israel spent 430 years in Egypt. Many Jewish scholars reject this number because it doesn't seem to agree with other numbers God provides. However, when we correctly analyze all numbers given in the account, we find that Israel did indeed spend 430 years in Egypt. You'll find discussions about all these subjects in this book, but you won't find a prediction for the end of the world. The Bible reveals we cannot know that date. It does, however, reveal the purpose for which the Lord has provided so much time information. It allows us to calculate that Creation was in the year 11,013 B.C., and Noah's flood in 4990 B.C. - and it allows us to understand that salvation ended in 2011. Yes, it was for the purpose of proclaiming the approaching end of salvation that God has given us so much information about time. We find support for this conclusion in several passages where God reveals that the elect remain here even after salvation has ended. For example, in Ecclesiastes 12 we see the elect pictured as a dragging grasshopper. This chapter is a picture of today: the period between the date when salvation is over and the last day. And when will that day arrive? All we know is that there is a long delay after salvation ends. However, some people who are living today will live long enough to see the Lord return. You may be among them!
