  • Once Upon a Time meets Game of Thrones in New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter’s magical, romantic dark fantasy series, in which the fairy tales we know and love are prophecies of the future. Welcome to the Forest of Good and Evil, where villains may be heroes and heroes may be villains...it all depends on who you ask. In the realm of Enchantia, creatures of legend still exist, magic is the norm, and fairy tales are real. Raised in the human world, Everly Morrow has no idea she’s a fairy-tale princess—until she begins to commune with mirrors. Soon, a horrifying truth is revealed. She is fated to be Snow White’s greatest enemy, the Evil Queen. With powers beyond her imagination or control, Everly returns to the land of her birth. There, she meets Roth Charmaine, the supposed Prince Charming. Their attraction is undeniable, but their relationship is doomed. As Everly faces disasters and betrayals, giving in to her dark side proves more tempting. Can she resist, or will she become the villain she was born to be? Critics love The Evil Queen: “Showalter (the Everlife books) delivers an entertaining series opener that condemns prejudice while championing self-determination. Romance-sweet and steamy, gay and straight-features prominently, action and humor abound, and the mystery of how each character figures into the legend imparts intrigue.”—Publishers Weekly “The novel's conceit has a lot of potential with its deconstruction of a cherished fairy tale, an interesting take on good and evil as actions rather than fate, and a long cast of characters in ever evolving roles that will leave readers wondering who they are supposed to be.”—Kirkus Reviews The Forest of Good and Evil Series: The Evil Queen The Glass Queen

  • “A well-researched and well-told epic history. The Dark Queens brings these courageous, flawed, and ruthless rulers and their distant times back to life.”--Margot Lee Shetterly, New York Times-bestselling author of Hidden Figures The remarkable, little-known story of two trailblazing women in the Early Middle Ages who wielded immense power, only to be vilified for daring to rule. Brunhild was a foreign princess, raised to be married off for the sake of alliance-building. Her sister-in-law Fredegund started out as a lowly palace slave. And yet-in sixth-century Merovingian France, where women were excluded from noble succession and royal politics was a blood sport-these two iron-willed strategists reigned over vast realms, changing the face of Europe. The two queens commanded armies and negotiated with kings and popes. They formed coalitions and broke them, mothered children and lost them. They fought a decades-long civil war-against each other. With ingenuity and skill, they battled to stay alive in the game of statecraft, and in the process laid the foundations of what would one day be Charlemagne's empire. Yet after the queens' deaths-one gentle, the other horrific-their stories were rewritten, their names consigned to slander and legend. In The Dark Queens, award-winning writer Shelley Puhak sets the record straight. She resurrects two very real women in all their complexity, painting a richly detailed portrait of an unfamiliar time and striking at the roots of some of our culture's stubbornest myths about female power. The Dark Queens offers proof that the relationships between women can transform the world.

  • Book Three in the series "Annals of the Heroic." After the death of King Arthur in the Battle of Camlann, the adventure continues in the lives of Prince Mark, King Arthur's heir, Brynja, his wife, Stephen, their son, and Queen Covianna, the new ruler of Britannia who would make Mark her consort king. "In 'The Captain and the Dark Queen, ' Gibby explores and expounds upon an essential but often dismissed element in Arthurian literature, namely, the great king's ultimate legacy. Here Gibby explores just what measures a forward-looking visionary such as Arthur would 'really' have taken to ensure the survival of his peace-loving subjects. The book actually tells two stories, the first being from the perspective of the author's first young adult protagonist. 'The Captain' is a welcome break from a young adult market saturated with 'You're a wizard, Harry' protagonists who, aside from being arbitrarily declared by everyone around them to be 'special, ' have no actual redeeming qualities to recommend them. In Gibby's volume, however, the young Stephen is actually saddled with real responsibility, makes mistakes as he struggles with pride and impudence, and matures as he sees the consequences that his pride exacts on those he cares for. During these portions of the book, the author applies his characteristic narrative and allegory to more mature subject matter--think 'The Chronicles of Narnia' for a slightly older audience. My favorite sections of the book are those focusing on the titular captain, Sir Mark of Glastonbury, as the man charged by King Arthur to take on a perilous quest to carry out his final wishes. Here, Gibby's narrative takes on a sort of sweeping, well-paced, Tolkien-esque saga, from epic journey, to harrowing battle, to fighting against the elements--and he continues to craft strong and admirable female protagonists as well." Jeff C."Book three continues the saga with superb insight and continuous surprises for the characters I have grown so fond of during this series." Julie P. "I was amazed at how fast I read through the chapters without realizing how time was flying by, and how it was impossible to outguess the author. This work is motivating and exciting. Today there is a great shortage of good role models-in Gibby's books there are characters who inspire! When I read the story of Vivian, I wanted to be like her! My sons loved the adventures of The Green Knight and Prince Stephen! The world needs these books and they will appeal to a wide range of readers. This work has the feel of the 'Lord of the Rings, ' but with the light and inspiration that C.S. Lewis brought to his tales. 'The Annals of the Heroic' will stand the test of time." Wendy

  • Screenwriter and noted film critic C. Robert Cargill continues the story begun in his acclaimed debut Dreams and Shadows in this bold and brilliantly crafted tale involving fairies and humans, magic and monsters—a vivid phantasmagoria that combines the imaginative wonders of Neil Gaiman, the visual inventiveness of Guillermo Del Toro, and the shocking miasma of William S. Burroughs. Six months have passed since the wizard Colby lost his best friend to an army of fairies from the Limestone Kingdom, a realm of mystery and darkness beyond our own. But in vanquishing these creatures and banning them from Austin, Colby sacrificed the anonymity that protected him. Now, word of his deeds has spread, and powerful enemies from the past—including one Colby considered a friend—have resurfaced to exact their revenge. As darkness gathers around the city, Colby sifts through his memories desperate to find answers that might save him. With time running out, and few of his old allies and enemies willing to help, he is forced to turn for aid to forces even darker than those he once battled. Following such masters as Lev Grossman, Erin Morgenstern, Richard Kadrey, and Kim Harrison, C. Robert Cargill takes us deeper into an extraordinary universe of darkness and wonder, despair and hope to reveal the magic and monsters around us . . . and inside us.

But there's a problem, because the moment Luminesa steps foot inside that magicked place she too will get sucked into the Goblin's nefarious scheme. Freedom can only be had if she can figure out the riddle of the key, and she only has one month to try. Failure means death for them all. There is absolutely no time or room for romance, but that's exactly what happens when she first sets eyes on the centaur male, Alador. Luminesa's been burned in love before, nearly losing her life to the hands of a crazed male she'd once thought a friend. Since that night she's hated men, all men, no matter what form they come in. But Alador is different, kind, gentle...with soulful green eyes that seem to peer through the icy veil of her legend to see the real woman beneath. His touch makes her burn, and his kisses make her feel alive again. Luminesa will do everything in her power, to make sure they all leave there alive. Even if that means killing anything that stands in her way...

  • In Venice, magic is not unusual. Merle is apprenticed to a magic mirror maker, and Serafin—a boy who was once a master thief—works for a weaver of magic cloth. Merle and Serafin are used to the mermaids who live in the canals of the city and to the guards who patrol the streets on living stone lions. Merle herself possesses something magical: a mirror whose surface is water. She can reach her whole arm into it and never get wet. But Venice is under siege by the Egyptian Empire; its terrifying mummy warriors are waiting to strike. All that protects the Venetians is the Flowing Queen. Nobody knows who or what she is—only that her power flows through the canals and keeps the Egyptians at bay. When Merle and Serafin overhear a plot to capture the Flowing Queen, they are catapulted into desperate danger. They must do everything they can to rescue the Queen and save the city—even if it means getting help from the Ancient Traitor himself.

They've decided to make the witch their pet project. Baba's choice is simple, fall in love with the male they found her, or die. She'd laugh, except for the little fact that they're totally serious.
