  • BROKEN WINGS reveals the tragedy of Alaska civil aviation from early bush pilots to modern jetliners, providing a unique perspective on the technology and human factors involved in aircraft mishaps. Written with expert analysis of aircraft operations, pilot procedures, weather phenomenon and aviation systems, the thirty stories detail major flying disasters in The Last Frontier, including some of the deadliest air crashes in United States history. Nowhere have civil aircraft accidents been as prevalent as in Alaska. The progression of unfortunate events and often unforeseen consequences not only offers a historical perspective on the development of aviation, but is an enduring example of the failure of even the best designed aircraft and the experienced pilots who fly them.

  • Drawing upon a wealth of previously untranslated documents, Broken Wings tells how a European nation built an entire air force in secret. Carved up and banned from having a military air service after World War I, Hungary became determined to rearm itself. In the early 1920s, Allied inspectors were evaded and obstructed at every turn; great efforts were made to stockpile equipment from the Great War; and the Hungarian government promoted the development of commercial aviation, partly as a front for military flight operations. The clandestine rearmament program could not depend on manufacturing at home but instead secretly accepted whichever planes Italy and Germany would sell them. During the late 1930s, the Hungarian air force went from operating as a secret branch of the army to an independent modernizing force in its own right. Hungarian air power played a great role in a victorious border skirmish with Slovakia in 1939. The cost of the reemergence of the Hungarian air force, however, was heavy: growing Nazi influence over the country, as Germany increasingly supplied aircraft and training. Inevitably, Hungary entered the Second World War on the side of the Axis in 1941, with its air force soon dwindling in independence and effectively becoming a Luftwaffe auxiliary force. Called back home to defend Hungary from incessant Allied bombings, the Hungarian air force ended the Second World War much as they had the Firstsalvaging aircraft parts from downed invaders and fighting until they no longer had airfields from which to operate.

It is the extraordinary story of Daniel Surefire Lasky an Apache-raised tracker and lion-killing Big Game Hunter who is commissioned to find the grave of a missionary last seen in Northern Rhodesia, 30 years before. • Do you remember when you lost your innocence? I do... It was 1969, GRACIE MAE WILLIAMS ran through the sprinklers in her backyard. Today, one week before her sixth birthday, a terrible abuse was born. An abuse which would be called the game, would last for eight years. Creating a world to escape where the skies are pink and yellow, and happy dancing flowers move gingerly in the soft wind, Gracie would hide here in her thoughts. Hoping to hold on to what little innocence she still had remaining, her abuser would continue to follow her to even the safest corners of her dreams. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, a young girl sold peanuts in the streets of Vietnam. An American soldier, JAXTON CARLTON WYATT would offer her a hope of better things to come. Two little girls lived seven thousand miles apart, but one day their lives would come together. Joined by a shared fate, only one would be saved. Unfolding over the course of eight years, with flashbacks that offer insight into the characters' histories, Mending Broken Wings is a work of womens fiction (based on true events) With three generations of compelling drama set in China, Vietnam and the U.S., this novel will appeal to readers of both fiction and non-fiction.

Extract: “I was eighteen years of age when love opened my eyes with its magic rays and touched my spirit for the first time with its fiery fingers, and Selma Karamy was the first woman who awakened my spirit with her beauty and led me into the garden of high affection, where days pass like dreams and nights like weddings. Selma Karamy was the one who taught me to worship beauty by the example of her own beauty and revealed to me the secret of love by her affection; she was the one who first sang to me the poetry of real life.” (The Broken Wings) The Broken Wings is a tale of tragic love, set in turn-of-the-century Beirut. The book highlights many of the social issues of the time in the Eastern Mediterranean, including religious corruption, the lack of rights of women, and the weighing up of wealth and happiness and is probably inspired from Gibran's own personal experiences. Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and philosopher. Regarded as a literary and political rebel, his romantic style was at the heart of the renaissance in modern Arabic literature. • Today’s inflammatory headlines come to satiric life in this convoluted tale of self-serving hustlers as Detective Lawrence Striker and FBI Special Agent Cassandra Cassidy put their heads (and other things) together to weave their way through the violent eruptions of racial animosities and the rabble-rousing buzzards who feast on those divisions. There are crimes to solve but as the story evolves the layers of the fetid onion are peeled away to expose the maggots of deception and double-dealing. In an early morning shootout on the mean streets of River City two African-American teenagers are gunned down by the cops and that heralds the emergence of the devious and race-baiting Reverend Abraham Castille to media-driven, national prominence as he, with incendiary rhetoric, escalates civil protest into open warfare. As flames threaten to consume the city a kindly old lady who was witness to the shootout is murdered, the city’s police commissioner is assassinated, and the rioting spins inexorably out of control and spreads with lethal effect to other parts of the country. Striker and Cassidy are sucked into a cesspool of evil doings that include a drug trafficking network that reaches from River City all the way to Russian mobsters in Chicago. In this miasma of duplicity everyone is sworn to different agendas and Striker’s resolve is put to yet another cruel and life-changing test. With a comedic and jaundiced eye, Branon depicts how today’s warped self-righteousness and avaricious self-aggrandizement have squandered the nonviolent legacies of those who led the civil rights movement of the 60s, a movement that wanted an equal opportunity for a seat at the table but didn’t intend to burn the house down while they courageously pursued the invitation. All this wrapped inside a page-turning thriller, a jigsaw puzzle of nefarious motives and end games.

  • Strap in, ‘cause it’s a wild ride through Destiny, or should I say Middle Earth… Not long ago, Sheriff Jack Lang would have sworn there were no such things as vampires, storm witches (Tempestaeries), djinn or dragons. That was before he met Tempest Pomeroy, his sexy redheaded mail lady and trouble magnet. He’d fallen for her before he found out about her special abilities. But that wasn’t what turned his life upside down. His transformation into a supernatural being… Yep, that did it. Tempe had feared her supernatural nature would be a problem for Jack, who’d mistaken Destiny for a normal safe, small town. Turns out, Destiny is more paranormal then normal. But that didn’t explain why Jack left her in favor of haunting the highest levees in the parish. Sure, he’d received a shock, and Tempe's willing to do whatever it takes, but can she convince him to return to his life and to her? A stubborn man is one thing, but a grumpy, depressed twenty-ton dragon presents a bit more of a challenge.
